Google marketing, Googlenomics, or Google Economics, is the process of making money through the search engine Giant. Believe it or not, there is plenty of money to be made off Google, just not nearly as much as there used to be. They have made it much harder to profit through their Internet medium. It is a fact, if you are not appearing in the TOP 10 of Google in some manner, you can forget about getting work or money out of online advertising.
I happen to be very fortunate. For years, our fence companies have consistently made money across the State of North Carolina because of our success through Internet marketing. There are two types of Internet marketing. Natural search engine results, also called organic results, and Pay-Per-Click (PPC) results which are achieved by paying for online success.

Google's Webmaster Tools can give you a good indication of how your sites and their website content are performing on the Internet. Webmaster Tools pretty much tells you where you are in terms of significance of keywords on your website. Webmaster Tools states, "Below are the most common keywords Google found when crawling your site. These should reflect the subject matter of your site." Having your website as an authority on a particular subject matter is something that is very important. Many bloggers will blog about anything and everything with no real theme for their blog, a huge mistake for Google Internet rankings.
True, if you put the word fence 1,000 times throughout your website, it would make the subject matter of your website, fences. But, Google is not going to tell you if you are overusing words, also called keyword stuffing. You see the 'G' word (Google) is the most powerful word in the business world to date. The 'G' word is the economic super highway. It should look like this Graphic Art Doodle I did below. Web Your Name® is working hard to become the Authority on Internet marketing and achieving TOP 10 rankings and results.
I actually discovered Webmaster Tools not too long ago. I have been using it for about 2-3 months and am impressed. Did your last marketing salesman tell you about this? Well, if this is news to you, then you might want to check it out. Webmaster Tools can help you find errors on your website. While they don't provide you with the same errors that the W3C Validator and CSS Validator (which has a PR of 9) provide you, all errors need correction, wether they are code errors or linking errors. Xenu can also provide useful linking information about a website. Xenu uses a technique known as preemptive multithreading. It means that the link checking software retrieves several web pages at the same time. Marketing companies who do not show you these things probably could care less about your website. We know what tools of the trade to use, to make your website get seen..
It's kind of funny that most marketing companies have no idea that Web Your Name® is actually the marketing agency for my wife's fence company, Next Generation Fences. Salesmen will call Next Generation Fences asking to speak with the person that handles the website, or the person in charge of advertising. Ironically, it is ME. I happen to answer the phone for Next Generation Fences, because I am the fence salesman, my wife doesn't have time to deal with it.
Sometimes I love to mess with the people calling, and I pretend I am really interested in hiring them to get me search engine results. I play along, usually interested in seeing how much they are going to charge, because I know they will never do as nearly as much work as they say they will. If the salesmen are going to waste my time, I might as well waste theirs too, even though I love to hear the B/S they are going to tell me about how they can get me into the TOP 10 on Google, when I am already there, and HIGHER up than they are.
The call can go a couple of ways. They will call me and talk about some usually obscure search term that somehow I don't rank for. When I asked them what they are searching for it's usually something like "privacy fence company in Raleigh NC". Sometimes I ask them to provide me with keywords that I can go search for online to find their company. These companies usually hang up when they cannot provide me with an answer. If they cannot achieve first page Google rankings for their company, why would I pay them to do it for our company?
I think I have finally achieved Zen and harmony in my life, and am prepared for the road ahead. However rocky it may be, I have learned a lifetime of information in my short 31 years on this planet. It took me years to perfect my search engine optimization knowledge and it still needs fine tuning. I think I have read every possible tidbit of information regarding successful marketing formulas. It is everyone's dream, but few's reality. I however am lucky enough to rank in the TOP 10 Google results. I wrote this today on December 19, 2009, and the PageRank of this web page was ZERO. Less than four months later, this page had a PR 3 and has appeared on the first page of the search results a few times.
Unfortunately, in order to get first page search engine results, you have to work endlessly to accomplish it, and once you reach it, you may only be there for a split second before you fall back down in the rankings. I have seen webpages with tons of information about theories on the matter. The truth is that obtaining TOP 10 Results requires first and foremost, PATIENCE. Yes, you need to be patient, you need good PageRank, and you need to constantly analyze statistics.
The truth is that I just recently started making serious progress with my websites on Google. I would say in the last 6 months, my network of websites have really blossomed. They have matured quite a bit, and the statistics are showing me I am headed in the right direction. Reaching the coveted Google TOP 5, is a dream all business owners have, but few will actually be able to afford. There is a huge cost to reaching the TOP 10 Google marketing results. You cannot buy your way to the top of the natural results. No matter how much money you have, you are only as smart as your search engine optimizer. I charge $5,000 for what some marketing companies charge $50,000 for. The natural listings do not include pay-per-click advertisements. There are quite a few marketing companies that will show you that the top 1, 2, and 3 results, sometimes highlighted in blue, are the best strategy to reach the top. This is false.
If every website in the industry you are in, has 20, 30, or 40 pages of information about various industry topics, then you are probably not going to make the front page of Google if your website only has five pages of information. In order to have even a remote shot of reaching the top of the natural listings, you must figure out what is enough content, but not too much content on your website. A website has to have enough information to rank well at all. A website with 75,000 words of quality content, will outperform a website with 5,000 words of worthless content, if all other variables are equal. A website with 1,000,000 words, may be worthless compared to a 5,000 word website whose keywords were carefully selected and we factor PageRank into the equation. PageRank is ultimately what can make or break the TOP 10 Google search results. Using a word count to check web page lengths is extremely important. It helps you target a range to be in, whether it means adding more words, or taking some away. Checking the character count in Titles is also very important to maximizing and building traffic.
If an Internet marketing company doesn't need to show you fancy statistics, or references, or other clients. They don't need to show you anything. Search for some keywords like Dallas marketing company, or advertising agency, or website design. If the company appears in the Top 10 Google results, you know they are a force to be reckoned with.
Lastly, a business that reaches Google's TOP 10 is only successful if they stay there. Sometimes marketing agencies are able to get a company to the TOP but cannot keep them there. Temporary online success is NOT success at all.
Top 10 lists have been around since God knows when. David Letterman's TOP Ten lists are one reason why his show was so successful, until he had an affair, then other people started jumping on his Top 10 List bandwagon. I am sure I could think of 9 more reasons on why his show succeeded.
