When people go online and browse the Internet, they are usually searching to find something specific. Making sure that you are in front of your target audience is the most important aspect of advertising. The problem is that when you hire a company such as BellSouth or Verizon or even most other marketing firms, you do not always know what exactly they are doing to get you those website "hits".
Those other Internet advertising agencies, generally focus on getting you traffic to your website through what is called pay-per-click advertising. That's right, these salesman, sell you on generating most of your website traffic through pay per click advertising. Don't get me wrong, PPC works, and it works well when it is done properly. BUT, there are several problems with your situation.
First, why are you paying a third party to arrange everything for you? You do not need a middle-man. You are paying a company like BellSouth to be your middle man with Google, Yahoo!, and other search engines. Essentially, they are just the street corner drug dealer, who you can easily cut out of the picture and go straight to the supplier. In this case, the supplier is Google AdWords. For example, why are you paying your marketing agency $2.50 per visitor to your website when it is only costing them say $1.25?
Once again, the salesman will fill your head with bullshit about how they know what they are doing. Nobody knows your business better than you do, so why would you want them running the show. I have seen hundreds of thousands of dollars wasted in PPC advertising. You would not believe how many times your Internet advertisement is showing up at the wrong time, in the wrong place, or in front of the wrong audience. Then all of those visitors you are getting to your website are leaving faster than it took that $2.50 to get into their bank account.

Google has developed so many tools so that business owners can fully develop their own marketing plans and objectives without the assistance of a so called marketing firm. If you can do it yourself, and it really does not take that long, then why are you paying someone month after month after month to do it for you? After you spend just a few thoughtful hours setting up your AdWords account, you can be achieving far better results and let your marketing program run itself.
Google's natural or organic results' ranking is determined by PageRank. PageRank essentially is a score given to each result to determine its placement within the results. AdWords is not much different except that there is one extra variable involved: money. Because AdWords is a pay-per-click system, the results have to factor in the price that a person or company is willing to pay for each click to their website.
According to Google, their system calculates a 'Quality Score' for each of your keywords. As with PageRank, Google calculates a variety of factors to measure how relevant your keyword is to your ad text and to a user's search query. A keyword's Quality Score changes frequently and is closely tied to its performance and rank, and would be AdWords version of PageRank. Typically, a high Quality Score means that your keywords will trigger ads in higher positions and at a lower cost-per-click (CPC). Click-through rate (CTR) is probably the biggest contributor to a high Quality Score. A high click-through rate means that your ads are successful and usually a CTR of 3% is considered really good. Click-through rate is the percentage of times an advertisement is displayed or shown versus the number of times it is clicked on. Each time an advetisement is shown it is called an impression. The formula is number of clicks, divided by number of impressions, equals click-through rate
When I began using AdWords about 5 years ago, Quality Score was kept as secret as PageRank. Google recently has implemented changes to the AdWords system to show you a score between 1-10 for your keywords. This eliminates some of the guess work involved with determining your bid price and gives you some insight into the performance of the keywords.
PR, or PageRank has no effect on AdWords advertising. PageRank helps determines the importance of a site and its' score is kind of like a grade on how Google views that site. PR is something that is important for each of its' double meanings. PR also stands for Public Relations. A search for PR on Google results in the TOP 10 websites dealing with Public Relations, Press Releases, and even Puerto Rico. All os these things use PR as an acronym.
Yes, our marketing firm President is an AdWords Qualified Professional. The thing is that you can be too. Google provides you with countless articles and videos to maximize your return on investment without having the expense of hiring someone else to do it less effectively for you. Do you really believe that companies like AT&T/BellSouth have your best interest at hand? Do you really believe that they are continuously working on your advertising program after it is initially setup? Do you really believe that your advertisements are not showing up in the wrong places at the wrong times? If so, BYE.
Our company is quite capable of milking you for all of the hard earned money just like they do. Our business is quite capable of hiring a salesman to make you think that we do a whole lot more than we actually do. Our firm is fully capable of roping you in and then flashing a few numbers around and then raising your rate the following year. BUT, our advertising agency is NOT like those other marketing firms, because we actually LIMIT the number of clients that are allowed into our "Web".
Lastly, why on earth are you spending thousands of dollars on pay-per-click advertising? You should be focused on developing your website, which you most likely already paid a small fortune to develop. Your money should be put into making that website achieve the same results as pay-per-click marketing, but for FREE. That is what brings us to search engine optimization. Search engine optimization, or SEO, focuses on getting your website to the top of the search engine's NATURAL RESULTS. In the last two years, one of our clients has done $750,000 in sales, without spending a single DOLLAR on pay per click advertising. Our clients marketing costs with us also go DOWN after the first year, NOT up. There is so much information out there, and we realize that it can be overwhelming, but by all means, read all of the articles on this website before you commit to hiring a "marketing expert". Your "marketing expert" that you are meeting with is likely just a very good salesman. If you are not meeting with the person who is actually doing your marketing campaign, you are getting SCREWED. Why would you not meet with that person?
Local advertising is one of the few benefits of PPC advertising. The ability to target customers by a geographic radius is of great benefit to businesses seeking local advertising. However, if your website ranks nationally and is a force to be reckoned with, then you will find very little use for local advertising, even if you have a business whose customer base is only a few mile radius from your location. Many people waste thousands of dollars a year in local advertising on TV, radio, newspapers, and telephone books. Before you continue to waste tens of thousands of dollars on local advertising, you should invest that money into your website which does not need thousands of dollars year after year. A website done correctly can get you many years of business without many years of advertising spending. If you could become #1 on Google for the term "Raleigh restaurant", then you would not need to waste money on local advertising through PPC.
You heard above all about Pay-Per-Click advertising. What I didn't really get into was what Google AdSense is. AdSense is effectively the opposite of Adwords. With Google AdSense, Google pays you to let people advertise on your website. As you see in this article, several advertisements appear in a slightly different color blue box that says, "Ads by Google". These are AdSense advertisements, and Google pays me per click when people click on them. The people whose ads they are, are using Adwords for those ads to appear on this website.
Click fraud is the process of generating revenue through fraudulent clicks, whether it is manually or through an automated method or computer program or script. If you are doing AdSense, you may have been caught for click fraud. In my reading on the subject, once you are caught and your account is terminated, there is no recourse. I find this somewhat disturbing because there are many automated programs and bots whose primary purpose is to generate clicks.
If you are a accidental victim of an automated program clicking on your AdSense, then how do you let Google know that you had no part in the click fraud? Google doesn't allow anyone to contact them and once your AdSense account is terminated there is no appeal process. I am sure that there are a lot of people who try to manipulate the system, but I am also sure that there are many people who are just victims of circumstances. Further, what if I knew someone that I did not like and wanted to get their relationship with Google terminated? I could intentionally cause click fraud to their AdSense account and there is nothing they could do about it.
What if you are an advertiser and the one paying the money for clicks and not receiving the money from clicks, how do you prevent click fraud? LOL. Stop wasting money on AdWords and start getting to the TOP 10 Google results so that you do not have to spend money on pay-per-click advertising. Pay-per-click advertising is for those who do not possess the skills or hire the right company to market their business. We do not spend a single dollar on AdWords. Our fence company spent more than $35,000 in about 3 years on AdWords, now we spend none.
Web Your Name made approximately $78 in 2008. The next year we made $284 in 2009. In 2010, we cleared $978 in revenue from Google Adsense. That is about 350% increase in revenue each year. I doubt 2011 will keep up that pace, but only time will tell.
From what I can tell, I get around $0.25 to $0.75 per click roughly on this website. The price per click that you make is dependent on a number of factors. The price you get paid is similar to that of the price you pay to advertise with AdSense, they are based on "bids". Some of the other websites that I operate and manage receive clicks that profit $1.00 to $2.50 per click. The ads that are shown are "sensed" by the content on the webpage. I have seen clicks worth as little as one or two cents.
I believe Adsense contributed a lot to click fraud and bloggers making way too much money, which caused Google to completely revamp its algorithm, something that now seems perfected, but I am sure will still have changes down the road. Being successful on the Internet with marketing and advertising is critical to the long term future of the economy and business world. PageRank has no effect on Google AdSense.
Over the last decade, Google has involved significantly since its' inception. It has been able to sort through an unfathomable amount of information. So how does Google tell what to show you when you search? How do they know what you are looking for or seeking? How does Google decide what results you want in a search for "PR", where it has many different meanings? How does google decide what ads to show on AdSense? Google 2.0 is what I refer to as Google after the blog bust. Man I wish I was able to ride that Wave.
Google generally provides you with whatever it is you are trying to find, in usually the first 20 results. Most people do not even look beyond the first couple pages of search results. It is kind of like the phonebook of information. Once you have looked through the first couple pages about something, the rest are pretty much useless. If you cannot be found on "the web", then you might as well not even waste your time online with a website. Many people will confuse AdWords advertising with TOP 10 Google results, since AdWords can appear ahead of the natural TOP 10 Google search listings.
