Sesame Street is an educational children's television series and a pioneer of the contemporary educational television standard. The Sesame Street brand is one of the most widely recognized international brands to this day. The show combines both education and entertainment. Sesame Street is best known for its Muppets characters created by Jim Henson. It premiered on November 10, 1969, and is the longest running children's program in the history of US television. The show is produced by a non-profit organization called Sesame Workshop, which was formerly known as the Children's Television Workshop (CTW), and was founded by Joan Ganz Cooney and Ralph Rogers.
The show has been running now for 40 years, hence the celebration by Google. Plaza Sésamo is an educational children's television series for preschoolers, which is the Spanish-language adaptation for Latin America of Sesame Street. You could always use Rosetta Stone to learn Spanish, if Sesame Street isn't really your thing or pace.
Three generations of German children have grown up on Sesamstrasse, the locally produced German version of Sesame Street that has been on the air since 1973, only 4 years after the English version aired. Once again, Rosetta Stone can probably help you learn German a bit faster than a muppet show.

11.10.09 This is for sure the final Sesame Street doodle. It brings all of the Sesame muppet characters together in this ensemble. The creativity of Google once again never ceases to amaze me and others. Their digital artistic talent is also pretty amazing. Keep doodling!

11.09.09 I've been known to be wrong a couple times in my life. Thinking that Google had featured all of the Sesame Street characters is one of them. I always tell my son that he needs to be good at two things in life. Those two things are math and computers. Today's doodle replaces all of the letters with numbers in honor of Count Von Count.

11.08.09 Elmo busts loose in this latest Sesame Street doodle. The "l" in Google is replced with "Elmo". Very creative, unique, and original thinking. The blurry letters give a feeling that Elmo is ready to shake things up a bit and get this party started! This should complete the series of doodles, most likely.

11.07.09 Today's continuous celebration of Sesame's 40th birthday anniversary begain with Oscar The Grouch popping out of his trash can in the O's in Google. The rest of the letters are all silver to match the trash can. Ahh the memories...

11.06.09 In continuous celebration of Sesame Street's 40th birthday anniversary, today's Google doodle is Bert and Ernie in place of the "o"'s, with a basic and simple design. Sesame Street has been part of America's heritage for 40 years now.

11.05.09 In celebration once again of Sesame Street's 40th anniversary, today's Google doodle is Cookie Monster devouring the logo which the letters are made out of chocolate chip cookies. Cookie Monster's eyes replace the "o"'s, with yet another creative, unique outside the box logo. Sesame Street has been an American Icon since 1969.
11.04.09 Today is the 40th anniversary of Sesame Street. Google is sporting the yellow logo and letters with Big Bird's legs replacing the "l" in Google. Once again there is never a shortage of creativity at this search engine. They are constantly thinking outside the box and coming up with unique and creative doodles.
Two wide-release feature films based on the series have been made.
The film was made in 1985, co-produced by Warner Brothers, Sesame Street Presents Follow That Bird, revolved around a social worker forcing Big Bird into adoption. Big Bird gets tired of his adoptive parents and homesick, and heads back to New York, when he is kidnapped by evil carnival leaders; the residents of Sesame Street launch a nationwide search to locate him.
The second Sesame Street movie, this time co-produced with Columbia Pictures, was made in 1999. The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland, was released fourteen years after Follow That Bird. In this movie, Elmo spends time with his favorite blanket. Zoe accidentally tears the blanket, when Elmo refuses to share, the blanket winds up in Grouchland, ruled by the Queen of Trash. Elmo ventures on, to rescue his blanket from the villainous Huxley. Soon, the rest of the Sesame Street gang join the pursuit, but end up in Grouch prison.
Big Bird also had a cameo in The Muppet Movie. As the muppets headed to Hollywood, they encountered Big Bird heading East, stating he was heading to New York "To break into Public Television".
